Over the course of a rich and varied career, Robert De Niro (born in 1943) has played a wide range of acting roles, from crime movies to musicals, period pieces and action flicks, with an affinity for gangster films. Brought to audiences’ consciousness by Mean Streets, he started a decades-long collaboration with Martin Scorsese (including Mean Streets in 1973, Taxi Driver in 1976, Raging Bull in 1980, and The King of Comedy in 1983). He won an Academy award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, Part II (1974) and presided over the jury of the 64th Cannes Film Festival, in 2011.
